NN07
Crafting sustainable transitions through second chances
2023
in collaboration with NN07
Project with Evy Cornelissen, Anaïs Dahl Perret and Rasmus Trøst Simonsen
"Repairing our damaged garments and textiles is an opportunity to rethink our relationship to our everyday objects. While we can’t undo the manufacturing of that item, repair can guarantee that those resources aren’t wasted."
"Second Chances" - Recare Book
A reference guide made to inspire and engage NN07’s consumers to repair their worn / used clothes or to customize and change them if no longer used often. To be available physically in the franchise stores and digitally on NN07’s website.
Recare Community
Recare Community to be included on the NN07 website as a place for knowledge sharing within the members, with space for discussion forum, tutorials and inspiration.
The project proposes the creation of a network of tailors to do the repairs following the aesthetics displayed in the “Second Chances” book. Individuals and organizations that could partner with the brand, with the possibility of work in the stores or in their own places.
Tailors Network
Communication
A reward card that can give free repairs, and posters to communicate the initiative and engage with future members of the community.
Circular, System Design
7 weeks, Holistic Systems
Focused on the increase of garment’s longevity during the use phase and afterlife, this project aims at inspiring the customer to have a better consumption culture, exploring how the brand NN07 can facilitate change towards a more responsible consumption.
Repair is explored as a way of extending the lifespan of garments, increasing sense of ownership on the consumer and generating value to the brand.
More than sixty samples were made to explore which techniques of visible mending could fit the values and aesthetics of the brand while considering the needs of the main NN07 customer. The samples were divided in three levels of complexity, from small repair to full costumization.
Move
them around!
Website
With the new website tabs, customers can request a repair, browse through the available tailors and stores, while being inspired by the book and recare community.
"This artisanal practice may also be considered as a reaction against the throwaway culture that has become so insidiously prevalent."
Facilitating Recare
The three elements proposed - the book, the online community and the tailors network - initiate the movement toward a new system. Together, they create the conditions for the implementation of repair services and creation of a movement to extend garment longevity.
